Mikhail Garmash - Fish

About The Artist:

What started as a hobby just over two years ago has quickly turned full time job for Mikhail Garmash following his tenure under Andrey Grigoriev. Mikhail has a unique eye for detail, taking classic shapes and subtly injecting them with his own style. Mikhail's pipes are make with only the finest materials, including SEM and Nikko ebonite and Manno briar.

Author’s Note’s:

When I first stumbled upon Mikhail’s work, showing great skill and attention to detail, I was surprised to learn he had only been carving for a little over two years. Once I learned he had studied most of this time under famed Saint-Petersburg carver Andrey Grigoriev things began to make more sense. I was immediately drawn to his meticulous pursuit to make a pipe not only perform flawlessly but also look beautiful from stem to stummel. I am a huge fan of Mikhail’s painstaking slot work reminiscent of the great pipe master Viktor Yashtylov’s own work. No doubt this technique was passed to Mikhail during his time under Grigoriev, who himself worked under Yashtylov for many years in the early 2000’s.

About The Pipe:

Mikhail’s take on the classic Danish fish shape is full figured, but still allows the elegance of the traditional shape to shine through. Gorgeous grain on this one that really accents the beauty of the carving. Flawless craftsmanship exhibited from stem to stummel. A great clencher with a group 2 sized bowl.
